We chose this cruise and AMA Waterways because it worked well with our schedule. Friends recommended AMA Waterways and we were not disappointed, other than the fact that the Amadante is the oldest ship in their fleet, and it showed. This was our third river cruise, so we were able to compare it with ships from a different cruise line, that were new. The service was excellent, staff very friendly, cruise director, Raul, was amazing. The excursions were varied and offered enough choices for everyone's liking. Because of the heat, we did not take advantage of the on-board bikes, but we would have otherwise. It is a nice amenity to have. Food was very good, and the Chef's Table was excellent.
The only negatives were the fact that we were only allowed to use the upper deck with its raised canopy when the ship was docked. Mind you, we went through a lot of locks, so that was understandable, but once we got on the Rhine river, and there were less locks, we still were not allowed to sit under the canopy, and with the hot weather, no one wanted to sit in the sun. The other negative was the wine group that was invited on board for the wine tastings, were from California. So, instead of tasting wines from the region, we were tasting wines from their vineyards.
All in all, it was a very enjoyable cruise.
