We went on a family cruise on the sunshine leaving in July. From arriving to the terminal to board, the ship was an hour late so we were cramming into the terminal waiting areas, the "wedding staff" there was EXTREMELY rude! We had one lady telling us to sit down, that they wouldn't start boarding until EVERYONE was sitting down, but they only had available seats near a "wedding party" sign was and the one lady back there wouldn't let anyone sit there. So there was back and forth with it for about an hour. Our balcony room was average, although the bathroom smelled of stale urine. I even brought an air freshener and that couldn't mask the smell in that tiny area. Throughout the cruise halls on multiple decks smelled like skunk weed and occasionally feces. My children refused to go to camp carnival. It actually ended up being a threat by the end of our 8day cruise. They didn't like the staff up there (rude) and were extremely bored. The activities that they would "allow" for the 6-8 yr old range were too young. The food at the buffet was sub-par. We did enjoy guys and the blue iguana though. (as always!) Dinner in the dining room was slow, food was okay, we've had much better on carnival in the past. Entertainment also leaves much to be desired. One comedian never showed so we were stuck with an ex-carnival employee- who wasn't funny. It was the same joke over and over about his appearance for the family friendly AND the adult only shows. We chose the sunshine based on the water slides/water park for the kids. One of the slides was closed the entire cruise, when asked if they would be working on getting it open a quick "nope" was the answer. The dump bucket at the waterworks ended up getting stuck and not really working for about 4 days of the cruise. The beach pool is much too small for the amount of people that they're cramming onto this ship. You wont be able to go to any activities without standing in line for 30 mins to hopefully get somewhat decent seats. If you're one that gets sea sick- this is definitely not the ship for you. Even in smooth waters we were rocking pretty badly. Over all the crew, minus guest services, was very friendly but the ship itself we will never go on again.

Port Reviews

St. Maarten

Beautiful beaches! We took a short taxi ride over to little bay beach. There were shops, restaurants, chairs and umbrellas all right there. Not crowded either. Not the best snorkeling, but a fun beach day!

Grand Turk

The water in Grand Turk is beautiful! Snorkeling was great too. We were going to take a cab over to Governors Beach after researching but the cab driver talked us into going to Pillory beach ($8 pp each way). The beach was beautiful and a lot less crowded than the ones right off of the pier. They have chairs you can rent for $10 each, but NO umbrellas nor shade to put your chairs or towels in. The restaurant at this beach is pricey and a lot of areas are off limits unless you are hotel guests.
