Well, our Viking cruise was outstanding! We had a new ship (commissioned in 2017) which in our opinion is so important. In 2016, we took an AmaWaterways cruise (AmaDante) which was an older ship (7 years old).
What we liked about the Viking Hild: heated floor in the bathroom; food was good; hot towels when we first came onboard; tour director initially said to us that we need to come to him with any requests that we might have or report anything that is not enabling us to have an awesome cruise; floor to ceiling windows in lounge, dining room, and our room; the ship had another restaurant onboard that was on the front of the ship on the 3rd floor for lunch and dinner (lighter buffet and meals); top of the ship was gorgeous with an exercise walk about, putting green and shuffle board, herb garden, plenty of umbrellas and chairs; ample counter space in our room with a large screen TV mounted on the wall; great movies to watch on our TV; night lighting in the bathroom; plenty of mirrors; had a safe and ample drawers and shelves; our balcony was so wonderful (on our last river cruise, I felt closed in . . .not on this cruise!); during a lecture, appetizers and small drinks were served as we listened; chocolate eclairs were passed out as we came back from one of our day's events; and then there was German night- waiters and staff all dressed up in costume and the tables were all decorated and had pretzels hanging in the middle, the food was outstanding and then the entertainment was excellent(self wound organ, singers, accordions, etc.).
Overall, the memories that we will have of this Viking cruise are the vineyards all over as far as you could look- even on steep slopes; the many castles that we saw and we toured one that was fantastic; and then there are the swans . .we couldn't believe they were all along the Rhine and even into Switzerland on their lakes.
