We chose this cruise because we had heard so many wonderful things about Viking River Cruises and the beauty of the Danube as it winds through Germany, Austria and Hungary.

Unfortunately, our experience did not match that of our friends who had previously taken this cruise. Overall, we were very disappointed with our experience.

Due to the impassable water levels of the Danube River in certain areas, we endured two significant disruptions during our 7 day cruise. The first two days were spent on the canal leading from Nuremberg to the Danube. By the time we arrived at the River it was clear that the water level was too low. On day five, we switched ships to another further up-river. This meant packing up and taking a 3 hour bus ride to the new ship. On day 6, we spent another entire morning on the bus to Budapest rather than sailing into the city. We then had a quick lunch and tour of the city. All the optional excursions were cancelled due to lack of time. We were later deposited to a 3 star hotel located outside city center where we spent the last night of our Danube River Cruise.
