We had been to Alaska in June on the Celebrity Solstice and my wife wanted to go back to Alaska. We booked a last minute cruise on the Amsterdam because it was out of Seattle, visited a couple of new places, and the price was right. The ship has an old world feel and was very comfortable. The food was not up to the same standard as the Solstice. The entertainment was slightly better. One of the reasons we took this cruise was that it went to Hubbard Glacier and Sitka. Hubbard Glacier was amazing! We stayed at the glacier for more than enough time to see several calvings. The captain also rotated the ship to give both sides of the ship time to experience the glacier. I would go back just to see Hubbard Glacier again! Sitka was also great. It had a completely different feel from all the other ports. We would take a cruise on the Amsterdam again.
We had no cabin assigned when we booked this cruise. We were pleasantly surprised to find we were assigned an ocean-view cabin. The cabin was good size and had ample storage. The one complaint would be that the TV was small and in an awkward position over the desk up very high. If you sat on the sofa you had to hold the remote over your head to get it to work, and tilt your head way back to view it. This was not a great problem since we don't take cruises to watch tv, but could have been done much better.
