We live in Fort Lauderdale and just finished cruise #41. Our favorite cruise line is Celebrity;however, over the years, we have been on many different cruise lines. Nine of us rather spontaneously decided to hop on board The Sky for a get-away weekend. The price is about as reasonable as you can find (including alcohol) and was also an opportunity for us to try out the new Brightline Train between Fort Lauderdale and Miami (which was a great experience).
We give (the nine of us) The Sky an excellent rating. The Sky is an older ship that has been kept in decent shap. It is an extremely casual atmosphere with a majority of the passengers wearing shorts in both the main dining and specialty restaurant areas. (This was one time we enjoyed that aspect of our relaxing get-away.) We each had a small carry on bag and avoided having to wait for our luggage and then walking off the ship this morning was a breeze - breakfast and then we headed to the gangway with NO wait!
The food is decent on this ship - buffet, main dining, and specialty restaurants. Our favorite spot was Cagneys where the nine of us celebrated a birthday dinner. The staff went out of their way to make it a festive, special evening. My rib eye was delicous.
We NEVER choose an inside cabin as a balcony is a MUST for us, particularly on a cruise lasting more than 5 days. But, as I stated, this was a quick get-away cruise and we took the most economical path - the inside cabin. It was fine. And, we were on Deck 10 Aft which put us one floor below the buffet and outdoor dining/bar area. Maybe not the best choice being that close to the food on a ship - HA! The cabin was clean, the room steward was extremely efficient without being intrusive, and we already knew the space would be about the size of a sardine can - so it was all good.
