Cabin: Owner's Suite with Balcony

We are Floridians, and Port Canveral is convenient for us, and we had cruised with RCI before. We timed this cruise with my wife's birthday, and booked a junior suite. Not sure why, but three days before the cruise, we were upgraded to an owner's suite, which I only noticed by accident when accessing my SeaPass info. A slight negative, because we were never officially notified, and could have shown up at the ship with the wrong cabin tags, and SeaPass. Regardless, this was wonderful for us, but created a couple of minor problems. Namely, everyone originally thought we were the people previously assigned that cabin, and many of the special offers in the cabin were with their names on them. Not really a problem. BTW, we also received all of the perks and amenities that come with the suite class cabins.

I did not tell my wife about the upgrade, until after we were in the cabin. She was blown away. Love at first sight, especially the bathrobes (not sure why). Despite how great the cabin was, the real perk was the suite extras. Namely, unlimited internet access for two, automatic entry to all entertainment shows, all day access to the Coastal Kitchen restaurant, and Suites Lounge, concierge services, and slightly expedited embarkation and greatly expedited disembarkation.

Owner's Suite with Balcony

Cabin OS

The cabin was gorgeous. Wife was blown away. Over 500 square feet inside, and enough room for two dozen people on the balcony. The living area had a table with four chairs, and the TV area had the sofa bed (possibly queen size), and three lounge chairs. Bedroom separated from the living area by a TV partition and curtains, which adequately blocked out the light. Enough storage for six people. Bathroom was enormous, with Jacuzzi tub, two sinks, shower, toilet, and of all things a bidet (with no instructions unfortunately). Wife loved the bathrobes.

The only possible negatives would be the nice large screen TV, which only had minimal program choices. Conventional outlets were sparse. Two in the bedroom vanity were fine, but none in the bar area, where they had the one cup coffee maker, and no place to plug it in. Had to brew the coffee in the bedroom.

The ship is huge. It took us a few days to figure out how best to get around, and where everything was. Numerous times, we were on the wrong side, or the wrong end of the ship, looking for a venue. Expect to do a lot of walking, climbing or waiting for elevators.

We never did eat in our assigned dining room, since we had access to the Coastal Kitchen, and it was more convenient. A lot of our breakfast and lunch was in the Windjammer buffet. Food and selections were adequate, but finding an open table was an adventure, although we never spent more than a few minutes to find one. Great views up there while eating. Never heard any complaints about any dining room food.

We saw Cats our first night of the cruise. Possibly our biggest disappointment. I never saw Cats before, or knew anything about it. I was unable to understand most of the lyrics, although their voices and dancing were nice enough. Many left after the first twenty minutes or so. We left after an hour, which was the intermission! My wife went to see the second half of the show in the last performance on the last day. Said it was better....but still too long. We saw the adult and family comedy shows, aquatic show, Come Fly with Me, and the ABBA tribute. All very good, with the adult comedy show being my favorite.

Service was excellent, and the crew was very friendly throughout the ship. It was obvious that some crew were overly friendly and looking for extra tips, but that was never a negative.

CONS: There were not many negatives, but I will list a few. We arrived at the terminal around noon time to find very long lines for entry to the terminal. Took about forty minutes shuffling in lines before we even got into the building. After getting into the building things went a little faster, especially with our expedited suites status. But at least it was air conditioned. Additionally, I got one of the last parking garage spots, all the way on the rooftop of the garage. Don't know where everyone after me parked.

I didn't get my original cabin assignment until about two weeks before departure. First, I was unable to get a dinner seating before 8:30, which is late for a couple of old folks. That also means we were looking at shows in the 10:30 time slots, again late for us. When I went to get show reservations, some were not available at all, and others were at the later times, not convenient for us. That all became moot when we got the perks for our suite status. Our only optional dining was at Sabor, the Mexican restaurant. Food was good, but spending $40 for tacos or quesadillas was not really worth it, although service and staff was very nice and helpful. The con everyone knows about is the nickle and diming that all cruise line do. Constant sales pitches for shore excursions, art, diamonds and jewelry, specialty dining, spa, photos and even bamboo bed sheets. These cons are nitpicking, and easily outweighed by the pros.

Another small annoyance would be the doorbell. These suites had doorbells, which I guess is nice, but some kids thought it was cute to "ring and run". Ours rang over a dozen times during the cruise, fortunately none while we were in bed.
