Dr. Seuss Waterworks on the Horizon

I am a travel agent so I am an avid cruiser. Before our vacation, I came here to read reviews about the ship. I was shocked at how many negative reviews I read and in all honesty, I almost wasn't even excited for the trip anymore. I can not think of one negative thing to say about the ship, staff, entertainment or itineraries.

Anyone that could cruise on the Horizon and not have a good time is absolutely crazy in my opinion. I'll start with the activities and things to do on the ship. There was never a time to be bored- ever. From the movie theatre, the ropes course, the play area (one of my favorites!), swimming pools, water slides and water park, casino, games and shows, serenity area, spa, trivia, bingo, kids clubs and activities, etc... Carnival has it all.

My children lost their father a little over a year ago and they have severe separation anxiety. We have tried kids clubs on other ships without luck and many tears. My children actually cried when it was time for me to pick them up. The kids staff was absolutely amazing and went above and beyond. Every single one made such sweet, genuine connections with our family and I am forever grateful. I wish that my children's teachers were this great in the real world.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin 8E

We had paid for a guarantee interior room and I was literally in tears when we walked in and saw that we not only had a window- but a BALCONY!!!!!! This balcony was in the absolute perfect location. I truly could not have chosen a better room on board the entire ship.

Port Reviews

Grand Turk

I loved the fact that we didn't have to take a taxi or travel in Grand Turk. It was so convenient to head straight to the beach at the pier. The beach was gorgeous and I LOVED the large pool area. The beach and ocean is great, but sometimes it's nice to jump in the pool and wash all of the sticky salt water and sand off. Margaritville was SO much fun and the host was absolutely hilarious. The pool games and entertainment was top notch and the drinks were great. The drink cost almost as much, if not more than the drinks on the ship- so this is definitely not a cheap place to come and drink and save money. I truly loved Grand Turk and can't wait to go back.

Aruba

We also did another resortforaday pass here as well. We went to the Riu Palace Aruba and it was the most gorgeous beach I've ever seen. The turquoise water went as far on as you could see. The resort was amazing and filled with lots of fun activities. The drinks were amazing. One negative... I overheard three groups of people talking in the pool about how several of their family members had gotten food poisoning the night before in one of the restaurants. They had narrowed it down to being the gravy that they had put on their mashed potatoes. Because of this... we chose not to eat anything here, even though we were hungry!

We swam over to one of the swim up tables and found vomit floating in the water- probably another victim of the gravy. I told one of the bartenders who got the manager. The manager came over and told me that it wasn't vomit- but a film of sunscreen. I watched as she whispered and a pool boy scooped the "sunscreen" up and carried on about his business.

La Romana (Casa de Campo)

We did our own excursion and rented a day pass from resortforaday.com for an all inclusive pass at the Dreams La Romana resort. Absolutely AMAZING and worth every penny. The resort and beaches were gorgeous, drinks were strong and plentiful and they even had a kids camp that my kids went to and loved. This gave us a nice 1 hour break to relax by the pool and enjoy some quiet time. After visiting this resort, I would actually love to fly back and stay!

Curacao

We also did our own resort through resortforaday.com at the Sanata Barbara Resort and Golf club. It was absolutely breathtaking and worth every penny. Drinks were great and for the first time on our trip, the food was FABULOUS! The only negative... I didn't purchase my resortforaday ticket until check in at the hotel. We had paid $50 for a taxi ride from the port and arranged for our driver to pick us back up at 7:30 PM.

Our resort for the day ticket was $119 per adult. I read in the fine print that this price also included a taxi ride from the port. A little disappointing that we could have saved- but I thought to myself that I would still let our nice driver pick us up since I had no way of contacting him. I didn't want him to drive all the way there and us already be gone.

The resort was wonderful. More quiet and relaxing than our other two port days. This resort is very upscale.

Our driver picked us up at 7:30 PM as promised. Once we got back to the port, he asked for another $50 for the transfer. I had thought that the initial $50 was for a roundtrip price. Apparently it was $50 each way. I literally felt sick because that was $100 wasted because we got free transfers included in our ticket. Lesson learned to buy tickets ahead of time and also to ask if the price is for roundtrip or one way.
