We went on this cruise because we had an October school break for our 2 kids age 9 and 11, Galveston is just a 4 hour drive, never been to Jamaica and last because The Vista was Carnivals largest and newest ship...the skyride was a plus too we were looking forward to.

About 4 years prior, we went on a much smaller Carnival ship out of Tampa - I did not like that cruise-so little to do and the music was constantly blearing and annoying trying to make a party out of so little really going on. Since the Vista was bigger and had several pool areas I knew I could get away from that if I had to.

Anyway this cruise was totally different and vastly better in every way - there really is no comparison! First we opted for 2 cabins on the first floor. It was almost the same price as a balcony on a higher floor and we decided having a second room and having a second bathroom would be worth the balcony and window sacrifice. It really was for us! We were quite comfortable. The first floor also had the "perk" that when using the elevator you could always get on since the elevator always emptied out on the first floor leaving room for us to go up. It was also really good for getting off the ship since you were right there near deck 0 and also good for getting back to your room after a tiring excursion-just a short distance and you can rest! I found both our cabins perfect as far as cleanliness, soundproofing, air conditioning quality and temperature, bed and bathroom quality. Some people complained about humidity but they were at a higher floor and I don't really know what there issue was fully. I wish I knew they were going to give me free water since I ordered some to my room- but that was only $10. The cabin person did a great job of keeping our cabin in good order and entertaining our children via the towel animals and some personal notes!
