The last time I sailed on Arcadia was five years ago. I’d blown some of my savings on a once-in-a-lifetime world cruise and loved every minute. The ports were fabulous and the service on board could not be faulted, but the ship didn’t win me over. Yes, I found the public areas spacious but Arcadia didn’t dazzle: the décor was bland, the styling unmemorable.

Fast forward to 2018 and my opinion has changed. Last week I disembarked after 17 days in the Med and Arcadia has been transformed. Arcadia now sparkles. The carpets in creams, dark blues and reds are dramatic and chairs and sofas of modern design are comfortable. Pale blues and creams contrasts with rich maroon and together create an elegant and luxurious atmosphere akin to a 5-star hotel: adult-only Arcadia is no longer ordinary.
