Cabin: Large Interior Spa Stateroom

We embarked for our cruise in Civitavecchia on 9/28/18. We flew into Rome that morning and used Holland America's transfer to get to the port. We were very happy we opted for the transfer with Holland America, simply for ease of use. There were Holland America Employees directing us as soon as we left the terminal to point us toward baggage claim and where to catch our bus.

We decided on Holland America for our Honeymoon due to the itinerary and the more laid back feel advertised by Holland America, and we were not disappointed! The ship was beautiful and while there were a lot of people on board, we were always able to find somewhere to sit and walk right in with Anytime Dining.

As soon as we boarded around 11 am, we were able to visit our room and grab a quick lunch (we chose New York Pizza and Deli! So so good!) and meet our room stewards. Our luggage was delivered about 2 hours later.

Large Interior Spa Stateroom

Cabin IQ

We have mixed feelings about this room. We enjoyed being on the Panorama Deck with easy access to dining and entertainment. But, we would not recommend paying extra for a spa category room. The interior room was nearly identical to any other interior room, and the extra "perks" were nominal. We had vitamin water and a Bluetooth speaker, everything else (from my knowledge)is the same as a standard interior room. And there is no extra space in this room, so I am unsure what the "large" was intended for. As stated in other posts, the spa rooms do not give you any special deals with the spa.

We did have noise from the movies at the lido pool, but were only bothered on a few occasions and mostly at the 10 pm showing. If we were looking at an interior spa room again, it would need to be the same cost as a standard interior room and be further back in the hallway to avoid some noise.

Port Reviews

Kotor

We had planned from the start of our cruise planning to hike to the old fortress. I am in no way in good shape, and I made it up to the top! We ended up with over 20,000 steps for the hike according to my fit bit, but each step was worth it! We took our time and paused to enjoy often. We were happy we started this hike right away, as it was becoming crowded when we headed down. Do plan to work hard on this hike, but know that it will be worth it!

As a side note, pick up after yourself. The people "managing" this fortress as well as littering visitors should be ashamed of themselves for the amount of trash stashed away. Some of the ruins at the top were filled with trash bags. Don't be a bad tourist and take your trash out with you.

Dubrovnik

We enjoyed walking the city walls and venturing up random alley ways! We had amazing pizza, bought some art from a local artist working in a church, and just enjoyed exploring! This port is very easy to explore on your own.

Corfu

After visiting Corfu, we honestly would have preferred to stay on the ship. Lots of traffic and trash, and not much to do. We found a couple of pedestrian markets and did a bit of shopping, and we did the hop-on-ho-off bus tour (we didn't hop off anywhere). If you see an excursion that takes you out of Corfu town that interests you, don't be worried you are missing something in town: you aren't!

Santorini

We booked a transfer with Holland America and that made getting to Oia very simple.

While Oia and Fira are very photogenic and beautiful, we didn't find much to do but shop. I think if we did this port again, we would make our way from Oia to a beach and lounge for the day and just spend an hour or two in Fira. We took the cable car down about 4 hours before all aboard and had no wait.
