We selected this cruise because of its itinerary and we because we have enjoyed sailing with Princess before. We booked a Suite (Riveria 616), partly for the extra space and partly for the added perks.
The ship: Launched in 2017, Majestic is Princess’s newest and largest ship (19 decks carrying up to 3,560 passengers and 1,345 crew). Although a new-ish ship, the quality of the finish isn’t great and it is already signs of wear and tear. There are new venues and facilities on board, but the layout needs a rethink. I don’t think that Princess has a clear understanding of, or even wants, a target market (instead it seems to be trying to cater for a wide variety of tastes and interests).
Embarkation / Disembarkation: Not a great start to our cruise. ‘Priority Embarkation’ for Suite (and Elite) guests is a bit misleading – you are only given priority within the boarding slot you have been pre-allocated based on your stateroom deck. After being told to follow the main queues at check-in and Customs, I complained when faced with tail-back at Security and was allowed to join the shorter Priority queue (there is no point paying for a service you don’t get). When checking in, we discovered that my husband’s cruise card had been lost and we had to wait for temporary one to be issued before we could progress to boarding. Although we boarded at 1330, two of our three cases didn’t arrive until after 1730. Disembarkation was a breeze though. We took advantage of a room service breakfast (on the last morning this is only available to Suite guests) and we were also able to relax in the VIP Lounge until we were ready to leave.
