Always wanted to do a river cruise in Europe and this one provided the most highlights and included shore excursions. Going that far, we wanted to spend more time so we chose a 2 week cruise. The reason for the poor review is the way Viking handled the low water situation. We had inquired about this problem before we left for our cruise and was told that there was no issue. They lied! We heard from the crew that the situation had been ongoing for 3 months! The main reason we take cruises is to avoid having to repack as we move from location to location. On this "cruise" we had to pack and unpack 3 times during the cruise and spent 19 hours on busses being shuttled form one ship n to another. We missed one location altogether and stayed on 3 different ships and a hotel! Had we known this, we would have waited to take the cruise at another time! This was an expensive trip and we feel it did not deliver the experience we expected. Most other people on board felt the same way. We all received an email less than a week before the cruise informing us of one possible issue in one section of the river. It turned out to be 4 sections! This was obviously too late to cancel. Viking has offered us 25% of our cruise fare off of another Viking cruise as compensation. I don't feel I can trust Viking to be honest and doubt that I will ever use this cruise line again! Very disappointed.

That said, the included shore excursions were wonderful with local guides who spoke English very well as did the crew. Meals on board were fantastic with a good selection. My only complaint about the entertainment and activities on board were that they occurred at 9 pm when I was ready for bed! Embarkation and disembarkation was a delight after the cattle calls of ocean cruises.

Thank you, judhess, for taking the time to share your recent Viking experience with the cruising community. Although it is with delight that we learn you found the dining and shore excursion...

Cabin Review

Deluxe Stateroom

Cabin E

The cabin is very small, but this is a river boat, so can't have the beam of an ocean going ship. The window is about 5 feet off the floor ( part of the room would be below water level.) I am claustrophobic and was alright except when going through locks on the river. Such a small room and seeing a concrete wall inches from the window was an issue for me. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom is small, but well appointed with a clear glass shower. The towels and provided toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion and soap) was lovely. There is a hair dryer but no magnifying mirror. The television service was spotty. Even in the middle of the river with no bridges overhead it frequently cut out.
