There were three nights formal not five as shown. BOARDING Arrived at Pier 4 Southampton at 1250 on 04 January. A computer failure caused a delay in the Terminal processing until 1535. It happens. During the delay, the only facilities available to some 1800 waiting clients was a small unit, with long queues, serviced by two ladies selling Instant coffee at £1.50 a cup. Cunard service it was not. This was a world cruise. VIRUS Two days after departure, passengers were made aware that novo virus was on board. After midnight on day four, my wife became violently ill. The medical centre advised the infirmary was full, many cases had already been reported and the Medical Officer was snatching a few hours sleep. He arrived at 0500 hours confirmed the symptoms and diagnosed the virus. Understandably, the Medical Officer and crew had to react. He closed THE LIDO Buffet except for beverage service provided by waiters. Closing the Buffet for days on end threw a burden on to the Britannia restaurant. The servers became mechanical, with little interaction and eye contact. After several days absence by four of the six guests from his table our server had no time to welcome us back or ask how we were. We wrote to Cunard on 22 January and four weeks later received a reply. Cunard wrote nine lines on the importance that food contributes to any holiday, one line hoping I had made a full recovery and stressed the importance of customer satisfaction. Ready made paragraphs. Because we had enjoyed the food, we made no comment about it and my wife was ill not me. On all levels, including the entertainment, the QM2 beat it hands down. We will travel Cunard again, but never the Victoria and can only look forward to another QM2 crossing or a voyage on the Queen Elizabeth.
