Took this as a family trip. My father-in-law had Hawaii on his bucket list, but no specific island. Since inter-island travel is by air only in Hawaii, a cruise that gave us a smattering of several seemed a good fit. It was. If you want to get an overview of Maui, Oahu, Kauai, and the Big Island, this is it. We had time to get a good look at Maui and Kauai and if you extend in Honolulu you really can have an eclectic Hawaiian vacation. Now, we went for Hawaii and not the Pride of America, which is good, because the ship is a mixed bag. For us the best points were a nice suite; very good service from our concierge, butler, and steward; and decent entertainment. The comedian and ship's magician were especially good. We found their shows well worth attending. Our suite was nice and fairly roomy, but lacked light and electrical outlets. When you are well past 50 - good lighting and plugs are a necessity. However, our room was very well kept and comfortable. A snag in our reservation (travel agent mistake, not NCL) was nonetheless handled promptly and fairly by the concierge - to a level of service not generally expected these days. What we didn't like - first the excessively high prices for drinks (which automatically add 20% tip - even if you prepay all gratuities) and the nickel and dime attitude of the line. When I hear all-inclusive, I believe it. For NCL, no. Buy the non-alcoholic drink package and still expect to pay $3 for an expresso, plus the tip. How about $7 for a milkshake? Food on the ship was likewise mixed. We had some very good breakfasts at Cagney's and the Brazilian restaurant was excellent for dinner. Italian not bad either. I really hate cruise ship buffets and POA's did not disappoint - having all the things I despise when dining: crowds, rudeness, pushing, shoving, people acting as they'd never seen food, poor temperature control, and cross-contamination. But it's a cruise ship and what I've come to expect. I've had some good meals on ships, but no great ones. I think it's just the nature of the beast in feeding people by the thousand. The shore excursions we booked through the ship were too mixed, but all were overpriced. The best trips we did were on our own - less money and better service. One last plus, check-in and out were really smooth and easy. I can't say that about all cruise lines. Bottom line: great way to see Hawaii - boat OK, but missing some details. Go again? Doubtful on the POA, Hawaii sure.

As above, comfortable and clean. Needs better lighting and electrical outlets. Balcony was great.
