Cabin: The Haven Courtyard Penthouse with Balcony

My husband and I are seasoned cruisers doing so several times a year. This was our first experience in the Haven as well as on the Breakaway. We booked a Haven Courtyard Penthouse suite located on deck 15. The suite was a perfect fit for two people, a tight fit for three.

Embarkation day in the port of New Orleans was very smooth and easy. We received our room keys at the Haven registration desk and were then escorted to a private waiting lounge. The lounge was a little lack luster and drab and to be honest, I would have preferred boarding with the masses than to wait for a private escort directly to the Haven lounge. But wait we did and after a short while, we were escorted into a private elevator and taken to the Haven where we were greeted with a cocktail and given an orientation by the concierge. The Haven lounge is beautiful and the outdoor courtyard was a favorite of ours. We especially enjoyed the convenience of the Haven bar and waited very little for a cocktail. All of the Haven staff were extremely accommodating and attentive.

Our stateroom was located on the same deck as the thermal spa which meant a very short walk through a Haven guest entrance near the gym. We enjoyed the thermal suite every day and feel it was worth the money we spent. I loved the flavor infused water and the bath robes that were always readily available. My favorite part was the thalasso therapy pool and its wonderful massaging jets. My only gripe would be that the hot tubs weren't really very hot. More like a warm tub, at best.

Cabin Review

The Haven Courtyard Penthouse with Balcony

Cabin H5

The deck plan shows this suite to be somewhat larger than the other H5 suites. This is not the case. This room is the same size as the others. There is a Crew Only storage room at the very end of the hall that shares a wall with this suite and this makes the room appear to be larger on the deck plan. This room has a pole that has been cleverly built in with shelving and made to be a part of the vanity area. I liked it a lot. The suite has a small sofa as well as a table and two swivel chairs. The chairs made the room too cramped so we asked our room attendant to remove them. Once gone, we were able to access the balcony with ease. The room location is at the very end of the hall which we liked because we heard no outside noise what so ever! The bedding and pillows were very comfortable and felt quite luxurious. It took a day or two to figure out all of the lighting switches but not really an issue. We enjoyed our butler service and the daily delivery of afternoon snacks and ice. I would certainly book this room again.

Port Reviews

Costa Maya

Loved the town area and had great shopping. Would have done an excursion had the ship been in port past 2 PM.

Harvest Caye

Spent a very nice day on the beach. Used a $50 shore excursion credit to rent a clamshell.

Cozumel

I really liked the fact that NCL docked right in the heart of town, unlike some other ships that dock a taxi ride away.

New Orleans

Spent time in the French Quarter and enjoyed some great food and music.
