My husband and I booked a cruise on the Ruby Princess to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We booked a suite R402. The room was lovely and spacious, although it could have been refurbished a little because of the wear and tear, but we were still pleased. We arrived on the ship in Los Angeles and proceeded to purchase the all inclusive beverage package. We then went to the buffet. We went back to our room to freshen up and enjoyed the evening in the casino. The following day we celebrated our anniversary and had purchased a dinner for 2 at the Crown Grill. We had also been notified that our travel agency purchased a meal for the 2 of us at the same location. We were thrilled, then our meal arrived. I ordered a filet, medium rare. The filet was dry and overcooked. I did not say anything because I did not want to spoil the evening. We decided to give the Crown Grill another try the next evening. I ordered the rib eye steak.....same condition as the night before. By that time we decided we would not dine in that location for the rest of our cruise. We met many people while celebrating and exchanged some very interesting stories. On the 3rd evening we dined at Di Vinces'. My meal was pleasant, but my husband ordered the surf and turf that was listed on the menu under the Crown Grill. His steak was prepared as ordered, but the lobster tails were burnt. When we retired for the evening, we had reported that the drain in our shower was clogged to our room steward. The next afternoon the room steward had inquired if our drain was clear and I informed him it was not. I reported it myself to guest services. The drain was cleared and the ship offered us a credit for our inconvenience which we accepted. We decided to try the buffet. It appeared that the selection of food was the same, but the chefs had just switched the kinds of pastas but not the sauces. We heard numerous people around us complaining of the selection as well. One evening I requested that my husband go to deck 5 to select a dessert for me. He came back to the room empty handed and said that there were 3 employees behind the counter chatting away while my husband and a few others were waiting to be served. My husband decided not to wait until the employees finished their personal conversations and came back up to our room. I spent a lot of time at the Roulette table and did quite well at the end of the cruise. There was an Asian female bartender working there on one of the nights and she was not very friendly or pleasant. I feel that when people book a cruise, they look forward to having a relaxing time and be treated with respect. Maybe she was having a bad day or perhaps, did not like her job, but whatever the reason, she had to be trained on basic customer service. I have cruised a total of 10 times, six with the Princess and my experience was not what I had expected. We ran into some bad weather going home and the ride was pretty bumpy. I realize that the cruise line does not have control of the weather, but they do have control over the other issues I have mentioned. In the past I have always raved to anyone who wanted to know what cruising was like, unfortunately my 40th wedding anniversary cruise will not be one that I intend to rave about.
