It was easy to embark on day one. We arrived early and were given a boarding group number. Waiting in very large lounge areas, time moved quickly until we heard our group called. Once we entered ship, we arrived at our first bar where only one bartender was working and it was very hard to get service, unless one were one of the group of really cute women who all arrived well after us and were drinking their first drinks within just a couple minutes. As a former manager of a chain of restaurants, it seems this kind of thing will happen on day one of every cruise with thousands arriving in a tight window and flowing through a couple places arriving at a bar. Come on, pour a lot of staff into those places and be ready to sling arriving guests their first drinks - and smile like they are welcome. Our bartender never smiled, except at the gang of women. He only growled "we don't make that" and then "we can't make this" when I tried ordering several items listed in the menu right there on the bar! The poor guy was also grousing as his computer was not working yet. This was a clear example to me of weak hospitality management putting one guy there to handle deluge of arrivals.

The room - the room was clean and well organized. But, the bed was worn out and terrible on my back. It sagged showing many people had sat in the middle on the outside towards the veranda. Carpets, walls, shelves and such were clean and good repair.

Room steward was only average changing the floormat in bathroom several times despite it being wet from use after I took a shower. He was quick to make bed every morning while we were out and the animals placed on bed were cute and a nice touch. The walls are paper thin and we could hear people in adjoining cabins a lot. It appeared he had more rooms then one person could handle and did little beyond make bed, dump trash, adjust curtains and tidy bathroom. An afternoon shower left towel on floor until next morning and that seems like weak service.

We took the Belize Spice Farm and Gardens tour sponsored by NCL. Frankly, I tried to find a local alternative and it is not easy as we arrive at an isolated island owned by NCL and trying to figure out how to get to a local provider is not easy for me. I am sure it can be done. But, not easy. Thus, we probably paid more for the tour and locals got very little of the money out of NCL I suppose.

But, the tour was excellent. A very zippy bus ride through the countryside with an engaging guide and we arrived at the farm. The facility there is really impressive. Very clean, well maintained. We were put on wagons pulled by tractors all through the farm. The local guide was very good and we saw, smell, tasted great many different spices, herbs, etc.
