Cabin: Edge Veranda Stateroom

Being very early bookers of the Edge's "maiden voyage" (like many, we booked the day the itinerary was first released), my husband and I decided to add this 3-day "preview" cruise as a 1st leg to our Dec. 9th Edge sailing. In short, we are very glad that we took the plunge, as it granted us a little more time to experience and enjoy the Edge and all of its thoughtful design features... in particular, the Edge's new Infinite Verandah (IV) cabin.

Favorite public space on the ship: Eden. It's just a wonderful place to hang out and relax in during the day. I especially appreciate Celebrity setting aside 3 levels of primo public deck space so that it can be enjoyed by all... without need of booking a specialty restaurant (like Tuscan) to enjoy the gorgeous aft view. I'm looking forward to trying Eden out in the evening during our Dec 9th sailing.

Other honorable mention: believe it or not... the disembarkation area on Deck 2, which is used during days in port. Very spacious.

Cabin Review

Edge Veranda Stateroom

Cabin E1

In short, the new IV cabin was wonderful. In fact, though we have historically booked more suite cabins than not....our short 3-day stay in the Edge IV won us over.. so much so.. that we would not hesitate to book an IV again... and again. (As long at the cruise was priced at the right price point to fit our travel budget... which means, we likely would need to book Edge cruises way in advance... rather than wait till the last minute...) Here's what we liked most: With a quick flip of a switch, our balcony top half of with window came down, and our cabin felt like a very spacious balcony.... or, when the window, was closed... a much more spacious verandah cabin. (I have seen another review which spoke of the windows being automatically closed by Celebrity... but we never experienced this. (A statement in the daily does warn that IV windows "may be closed automatically due to inclement weather or cleaning.") The gray and creamy white color palate of the walls and carpet, along with the ceiling to floor window, made the room feel very open and spacious. The blackout shades worked great to keep out the morning sun until we were ready to see it... and unbelievably, there was much more storage than we were able to use. We also appreciated the much larger verandah bathroom and shower -- a really clever design the way the shower door "bulged" out into the bathroom... without compromising spaciousness in the bathroom, itself. In short, the IV's xtra storage and bathroom space (over that offered by the S and M class's verandah cabins) eliminates our two main incentives for booking suites in the first place. Perhaps one of the most thoughtful design features I appreciated about our IV cabin's shower is that the large lettering of the labels on the toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash) were large enough that I could easily read them with no need of taking specs in the shower!
