We were on the 7 night So. Caribbean cruise on the Celebrity Summit out of San Juan. This was our 4th time on the Summit, and she always impresses us.

We had a "scare" the morning of embarkation as there was a strike of the port workers. Through social media, we heard that passengers were not being allowed to disembark, and thus we would not be allowed to embark because of the strike. Unfortunately, we were not aware of who to contact about this, and the Celebrity office was closed. Luckily, we had befriended a cab driver and he said we should still head over for embarkation. By the time we reached the port, we were allowed in, and were one of the first people at the pier. We were on the ship early and the vacation started.

The Summit is going in to be "Edgeisized" soon, but we found her upkeep to be very good. Is there some signs of wear and tear on her, sure. But nothing that would spoil our vacation or that we would complain about. For a "smaller" ship, the Summit never seemed crowded to us, and offered us the usual OUTSTANDING service, friendliness, and quality food and beverage that we have come to expect from Celebrity.

Cabin Review

Aqua Class

Cabin A2

Very minimal wear and tear, but nothing that bothered us. Although located on deck 9, and under the pool, we only heard minimal noise from the pool deck in the morning (and we were up anyway), and nothing at night (but we are almost never in the cabin during the day/night except to sleep, shower and change). Large overhang on the balcony because of the pool, so a lot of shade on the balcony (but no one looking down at you either). Because of being in AquaClass, we dined in Blu every night. Blue was excellent and the staff was wonderful.

Port Reviews

San Juan

San Juan was the home port for this cruise. We had a pre-cruise stay at the La Concha hotel. Highly recommend the La Concha. San Juan is still recovering from the hurricanes, but doing much better.

St. Croix

There was a small beach just to the left of the pier that rented chairs and umbrellas, so we opted for a beach day for day one. No cab necessary, and a very easy walk. Not very commercialized, but some shops and local craft stands at the end of the pier.

Barbados

We just walked around the port shops to stretch our legs and got back on the ship and enjoyed having her all to ourselves. We had been to Barbados before and there is a wide variety of things to do (Hamilton Caves, snorkeling, etc.).
