We watch some TV networks where Viking advertise all the time and we have always talked about a River Cruise. 2 years earlier on a Viking Ocean Cruise (Best cruises in the world) we met a couple that had done 7 River Cruises - they met us on this one.

This was Viking Hemming Rivers of Gold and we spent 2 nights in Lisbon in a great hotel and then embarked The Hemming in Porto Portugal 2 days later.

We had been advised that since we have done ocean cruises - on Viking - that we should be careful not to "compare" because they are different. I both agree and disagree with this statement.

Cabin Review

Standard Outside Stateroom

Cabin E

New to River we did not know what to expect. We knew that it would be smaller than the Viking Ocean cabin... We chose the Standard (E) category that is just a porthole type window that is chest height. We personally do not see the value in spending a lot more on a cabin that we don't intend to spend time in other than to sleep, shower, and dress. I was concerned because I have never been in a cabin that did not have opening windows or a balcony but this was quite alright. The cabin is small - no doubt about that but fully able to hold all the clothing and stuff we brought and needed. We were well organized and all was good. The cabin did impress me with the bathroom. We are used to the bathroom standard on the Viking Ocean and this met the same standard. The bed was comfortable and our cabin Steward was amazing.
