Just got off 1st NCL Cruise, family of 4. We have sailed multiple times on DCL but were ready to try something different as kids have aged out of the Disney stuff. Overall Breakaway had better food quality across the ship, and the mini-suite Cabin seemed more spacious than regular DCL balcony and had an AWESOME shower. The ship was beautiful and I preferred the smaller dining areas vs the enormous main dining on DCL. BUT ... the service was awful. Sat in lounge chairs for over 4 hours on a sea day by the pool and not once did a cocktail server come by. Any time you wanted a drink it was easily 20 minutes in line watching the bartenders avoid you and constantly, slowly making over complicated drinks, muddling, shaking straining etc. Very frustrating when you just want one beer. The only self serve station with no wait was a wine machine but of course that’s not part of the package. Kids club was terrible ( obviously knew Disney would have that aspect in the bag) but seriously one large room filled with TV monitors and zero activity stations or anywhere to sit. Both my 9 and 11 year old hated it and the club was completely over capacity every night so you couldn’t get your kids in. The room steward was THE WORST I ever had. 4 out of 4 excursion days we came back to a room that was still not made up, I’m talking easily 6 + hours and nope! Nothing. Every day we had to call and then find somewhere to be while we waited on the room to be cleaned. It was painful. Also, every single speciality restaurant on board was completely sold out on every night of the cruise. They have these big boards that show availability and everything at every time was just red. The main dining service was so awful, that we ate in the buffet most nights. Thank goodness the buffet quality was acceptable. The entertainment was fine at night, the dueling pianos and the magician were good but the singing duo was so bad I have new appreciation for the old Will Ferrell skit from SNL. The ports were as expected, but boy Belize City is a dump! I would stay onboard if I ever found myself there again. I would not choose NCL again due to the service issues, too much waiting for absolutely everything - ther staffing ratio is not working at all.
