We were nervous about cruising because of all the bad stories out there. So, we chose Viking for its smaller size and non-carnival atmosphere. We won't ever go to a large ship because this was such a wonderful experience.

The clientele are older, professional people. We did not see anyone behave improperly and everyone was on-time, if not early, for embarking on excursions and returning to the bus on time.

We were offered an upgrade from a deluxe veranda to a penthouse veranda for a fraction of the cost and we were glad we took the upgrade. (And, yes, it worked! We won't go back to a deluxe veranda!) The room was spacious, VERY clean, and the location was excellent. Love the heated bathroom floors!

Cabin Review

Cabin penthouse veranda

We liked that no one walked by our room except people headed to their rooms (and there were only 7 rooms past ours). The room was spacious and well-outfitted. We could plug chargers straight into ports without adaptors! Lots of accessible storage. Heated bathroom floors were a delight! We appreciated being on the same end of the boat as the exit off the ship and the restaurants. Just walk up or down the stairs and we were there! If you need more hangars, just ask the steward. If you want a different soda in your refrigerator, just ask. The bed and pillows were comfortable.

Port Reviews

Stockholm

Informative. We were offered the option to come back when we want via the ship shuttle and we enjoyed wandering around.

Helsinki

Porvoo was a lovely small village. The trip there and back put me to sleep, though. Maybe jet lag?

St. Petersburg

Fascinating. Group of about 16 people. The tour guide was entertaining and an informative native to St. Petersburg who spoke excellent English. Didn't get to do the hydrofoil or the ballet as advertised, though.

Tallinn

Short but informative. Tour guide was excellent. Once again, we had the option of returning later via ship shuttle (or returning in the afternoon via shuttle).

Gdansk (Warsaw)

OH MY GOODNESS! Fabulous brick castle!!!! Our tour guide was very interesting. When she told us she would give us a sample of what the singing would sound like in the chapel, I was worried. When she started singing, I closed my eyes and was transported. Wow!

Rostock (Warnemunde)

Took the ship train to Berlin. We had set up the tour guide ahead of time. We were on our feet for 7 hours with only a very brief lunch stop (per our request) so we could cover as much territory as possible. We learned a LOT about Berlin. Wish we had an extra day to do the museums.

Copenhagen

Informative. We returned with group but went back out via the shuttle and took a canal tour on our own for much less than ship excursion.

Aalborg

Took the lighthouse excursion. Despite the weather, it was good to get out into the countryside and the lighthouse was very scenic. On the downside, the time we were given to shop in this "artist" community was wasted. Our best shopping was done at the local grocery store and a t-shirt store. Not what we anticipated.

Stavanger

Despite the weather, this was FABULOUS! Wear a raincoat and just go with it.

Eidfjord

We took the Flam train and saw some beautiful countryside. They need to add a bathroom break on the way to the train.

Bergen

City tour plus Ulriken Cable car. At the top of the mountain, we would be completely clouded in and then it would clear and then it would...We went back into town after lunch and did Mt. Floyen on our own for much less than ship excursion.
