We had a fabulous time on our San Juan to the Amazon sailing. It is not an itinerary for everyone but if you enjoy learning about different cultures and seeing sights unlike your home from the comfort of a beautiful ship, it's a wonderful trip. I commend Viking for visiting a destination that is not as well established as their more usual European destinations. The destination presents more difficulties for the cruise line but I thought Viking did an excellent job of handling the obstacles they were presented along the way. There were more sea days than on a typical Viking Ocean cruise but if you don't expect to have craft classes and salespeople giving you coupons for your onshore shopping experience, there are plenty of things to do.
The Viking Sea is also not a ship for everyone but I love it. I love the fact that the ship does not seem crowded and you can always find a place to sit and watch the ocean. Not having a casino and lots of stores gives the ship more room for guests to sit and relax. The clean lines of the Scandinavian décor contribute to making the ship seem more spacious. The guest lecturers are interesting and cover a broad range of topics pertaining to the destination. There were lots of options to enjoy musical entertainment and I thought the entertainers on board were very good. I especially liked the house band. There are no huge production numbers but I am always impressed with what they are able to accomplish without a lot of people.
The cabins are spacious and since they all have balconies it makes the cabins seem bigger. The cabin bathrooms are the best.
The cabin is well designed and comfortable.
We took the piranha fishing tour and it was a lot of fun and gave you a chance to get a little closer to the islands. We were fortunate enough to see a sloth from the boat and our boat caught four piranha and several catfish. A very enjoyable trip.
The catamaran sail offered a variety of things to do including visiting a cocoa farm, sightseeing, and snorkeling.
