While I am going to cover the overall cruise; ship, itinerary, entertainment, excursions etc, a key part of this review is to discuss our Royal Genie / Star Class experience. We are also going to share some dollar values because we have found it frustrating in other reviews that people seem to be reluctant to share what things cost.

Our Cruising Background

It may help to understand our cruising background in order to better understand our perspective when reading this review. This was our tenth cruise on Royal Caribbean and our eleventh cruise overall. All of our cruises have been in Suites (I have no patience for waiting in lines and my wife has no patience for dealing with me when I’m waiting in line). The one cruise that was not on Royal Caribbean was on Norwegian – which was not a good experience for us – so we would describe ourselves as fairly loyal Royal Caribbean cruisers. We do not think that Royal Caribbean is perfect – far from it! We often tell people that we believe that Royal Caribbean has the worst possible pre-cruise experience (boy are they bad) but that once you step on board they really do a good job. We are not super price conscious but, like most people, we want to know we are getting value and a good deal.

Cabin Review

Grand Loft Suite with Balcony

Cabin GL

Suite 10720 is one of the corner Grand Loft suites and it is very nicely appointed.

Private Patios:

There are three. One large patio out the back of the ship and two smaller patios on the side of the ship (one upstairs and one on the main level). It was really nice being able to go out on two sides – particularly if the sun was beating down on one side or the other.

Bathrooms:

Two full bathrooms. One large one on the upper level and a very small one on the lower level. The lower level bathroom is divided into two rooms on either side of the entrance hall. On one side is a toilet and sink and on the other side is a stall shower and sink. VERY little counter space on the lower lever bathroom(s). THERE IS NO TUB IN THIS SUITE.

Living Room:

Really beautiful and well laid out with comfortable furniture. We entertained several times and it held a decent size crowd comfortably.

Bedroom:

Super nice and what a view! You wake up to this incredible view of the ocean from the floor to ceiling two story windows out the back of the ship. Very nice dressing area with large closet and drawers.

Location:

Beware! This suite is all the way in the back of the ship AND THERE ARE NO REAR STAIRS / ELEVATORS ON THIS SHIP! There is a LOT of walking just going back and forth to the mid-ship stairs / elevators! There is no problem with sound in this suite. We heard nothing from anywhere outside of our suite the entire cruise.

Port Reviews

Sydney (Australia)

We toured on our own. The Opera House tour is great!
