We were on the 'fog delay" New Year's sailing. That was a very trying experience, but was of no fault to NCL or the Pearl crew. NCL sent us numerous updates via text and phone calls. I have read reviews negating that, but be advised that the cruise line can only communicate via the information you provide to them. Be sure to have accurate phone numbers tied to your reservation! Most of the port delays were due to port authority and coast guard--safety precautions can't be helped, and are a part of the cruise experience--especially during peak weather times. I booked knowing winter is "fog season" in Tampa. Only lesson I learned is to arrive later, rather than earlier, if port authority has delayed embarkation.
Now to the Pearl!
Staff did an amazing job turning the ship around. When we finally were able to board, our room was ready and immaculate. There were complimentary waters and treats awaiting us. Even though it was well passed midnight, several bars open as well as the buffets. I was impressed how many services they had open despite the crazy day.
Room was always spotless. It was quiet and in a good location to get to entertainment and dining--we usually used the stairs. Great storage as well.
From what i have researched, most of our delay issues were due to port authority and coast guard. I just do think they were prepared for the type of delay or number of sailing impacted.
