Always wanted to see Christmas markets in Germany/Austria. Saw an email three months prior to the trip with pricing offer that seemed too good to pass up. Have done several ocean cruises in Europe - this was our first river cruise. We really enjoyed the slower pace, the ease of walking right to the center of town from our ship (unlike ocean ships where you sometimes must get transportation from the port to the city center). The ship's decor was elegant and simple. Service was excellent, very friendly crew. The food was very good, with regional menu offerings. There is no fitness area on the ship, but we walked our legs off nearly every day so we didn't miss it. The entertainment on river cruises can't compare to the big production shows you see on ocean ships, but the singing groups they brought on in a couple of the ports did a nice job. It was the first time in five months that the ship had been able to complete the entire journey, due to low water levels all summer. Thankful that we only had to unpack one time and were able to stay on the same ship for the entire journey without having to be bused between ports. The port towns/cities were all very charming and interesting - Christmas decorations and markets were very beautiful. The tours that Viking includes in the cruise price were very well done. Could not tell the difference between the included tours and the couple of tours that we paid extra for. We will definitely cruise with Viking again.

Cabin Review

Veranda Stateroom

Cabin B

Next to the last cabin on the second deck on the back of the ship. Too cold to use the balcony, but it was nice having the floor to ceiling windows that a balcony cabin provides. It was a quiet cabin (no engine noise). Enjoyed the heated floors in the bathroom. Plenty of storage for a one- or two-week cruise. Floor space was a little bit tight, but we did not spend much time there other than to sleep or shower/change clothes.
