We signed up for this Panama Canal cruise in May 2017 while we were cruising with NCL in Alaska. After our 20 months wait, this cruise was finally a reality. We arrived a day early to ensure our flight was not delayed due to winter weather and stayed at a hotel in San Pedro, CA. We had a fun time in San Pedro and would recommend it for a pre-cruise day before hand.
Things started out perfectly as we arrived at the Los Angeles Cruise Port on Friday 04 Jan 2019 and quickly went through the embarkation process. This was the smoothest we've experienced during our six (6) cruises. Our Kudos to all involved.
The NCL Star is the same size of ship that we've sailed on with RCCL and NCL so we were prepared for it and easily found ourselves at home on it. The Star looked attractive, clean, and well maintained considering the constant use it is put through. The crew was seen actively cleaning all areas daily.
Our balcony cabin #10110 was the standard size we expected and quickly got organized in it when our bags were delivered. The cabin was expertly maintained by our steward RAI who took exceptional care of us for two weeks. The cabin has only one electrical plug for things like the hair dryer or for charging batteries. However, we found there is a double USB charging receptacle on the wall below the TV. There are single USB charging receptacles under each lamp on the wall above the corners of the bed which were very handy. We were located mid ship on the port side. It helped control any feeling of movement during the few days the sea was more active than the majority of days. This location was centrally located on the ship which made it easy to move around.
We enjoyed our pre-cruise day in San Pedro. Great hotel location (Crowne Plaza) with good food choices within a block of it. It was a short hotel shuttle ride to the cruise port the next day.
