We went with 2 couples who have done this exact cruise many years in a row. We have only done 1 cruise prior to this and did not really enjoy it, however it was a Carnival down to Mexico. That cruise was a druken fest, everyone was smashed and rude. We booked this cruise thru a travel agent and felt comfortable with the price and amenities offered. We opted for the gratuities package and the drink package based on our friends suggestions. When we boarded the ship, we were pestered to upgrade our drink package and it was never ending, very bothersome. We loved our cabin, the best part of the entire cruise and our cabin attendant too. The first ports of call were the West Indies and very "third world". Antigua, Barbados, Genada and St. Lucia. We did not get a good vibe in any of them and felt unsafe for the most part. I would not return to any of them. The ABC Islands were great and no problem with the panhandlers or the pesky taxi drivers. The people here seem thankful for you and your business unlike the first ports. We had a good vibe and felt sad, would return and will but not by Cruise. More to follow on that. We had a number of "issues" on/off the ship. First, the first days at sea, everyone is milling about and seats were difficult to find. When we went down for cocktail hour, they had 1 waiter and 1 bartender for 50+ people. Everyone complained. After the third wight it good somewhat better. Second, we were stranded at a snorkel excursion for 1 1/2 hours waiting for pickup. They gave us an apology and a discount on another excursion only after all people on the excursion signed a petition and turn did in. Third, I went to book the next excursion and the desk had 15 people in line. I waited 45 minutes. Finally the Concierge came and apologized for the problem and told us they had an issue while in port that caused staffing problems?! I bailed out of line and went to Guest relations(no line) and 5 people working. Told the girl the problem and she booked my excursion in minutes. I asked why the Concierge was not bright enough to send some of the people here, she replied I don't know, he should have! I went back to the line and told everyone to go to Guest relations, they did! Lastly, we had a chemical incident outside our cabin. We were walking to our stateroom about 1 in the afternoon and smelled a very strong odor. Another couple also smelled it, it seemed to be within 10 rooms of ours but strongest at our room. I called the front desk and reported it, ask for an immediate update. Waited 10 minutes and nothing. Went down to the desk, a girl acted as if there was no call there. She called round and found out it was someone ordered to remove and clean stickers from the Fire Doors, using Paint thinner! I asked if they could stop, she said no. Told she would be done in about 20 minutes and the odor should be one in an hour. Went back to the room, now the girl is outside our room with a bottle of thinner, no gloves, no eye wear and no respirator. Using a rag to apply it. I asked her to stop because my eyes were watering and the fumes were affecting my breathing. Said she could not stop and suggested I leave the area. Got my wife and went to the pool for 2 hours. Returned and the odor was worse. Went back to the desk and asked for a Manager. He finally came out about 10 minutes later and apologized. Now he is offering to move us to the other end of the ship. He cannot give me any explanation of WHY it was so important to do this while people are on board! We went to dinner all the while left the sliding door open to our cabin. Came back to the cabin by 11pm, still there but a bit better. Slept in the room and awoke with headaches of course. I have reported this to corporate and they gave me a $200 on board credit for another Cruise, I think this is outrageous and will now report the incident to the Coast Guard and OSHA.
