The Mariner OTS was recently refurbished after returning from Asia. Food and entertainment were good ,service in MDR was also above par for RCI. The entertainment was good, great comedian, juggling act and ice skating show. RCI did a FABULOUS job on the upgrading and updating of the public venues on the Mariner.....ship looked brand new with beautiful new decorating (carpeting, furniture etc).....however, they left the cabins UNTOUCHED. Our cabin, a hump balcony on deck 8, had the most horrendous, overwhelming odor upon entering the cabin. We talked to "Guest Services", they sent up housekeeping to assess, they claimed to 'deep clean' the carpet....but it never got a drop better and even grew worse....it was MILDEWED carpeting (the carpet shampooing probably made it worse by adding water to the flooring??). Thank goodness we were only on this ship for a 4 day cruise. This cabin was barely liveable and it was most likely unhealthy to be breathing in mold as well. It ruined what was to be and should have been a wonderful cruise on an otherwise beautiful ship!!
Mildewed carpeting, not refurbished, permeated the cabin with a strong stench (caused me to actually 'gag'), which did not go away when spending any amount of time in the cabin. This should have been addressed before accepting $$ from passengers. Not only noxious to breathe in mold, but very unhealthy. Shame on RCI's steward staff for not reporting this issue LONG ago (this is NOT a NEW issue - it was pervasive and STRONG) and resolving with carpet replacement.
