Seeing the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) were on our bucket list, and the Hurtigruten Norway Coastal Cruise with the Astronomy Cruise package seems to be just the right trip for us - staying close to the coastline, and stopping at many Norwegian towns and villages.
Hurtigruten made our trip comfortable and memorable. The embarkation and disembarkation process was well organized and very smooth and easy. Our cabin (809) was clean and very comfortable, and had more storage than we needed (quite the surprise). The food was absolutely wonderful and delicious - the breakfast and lunch buffets had so many choices, we never went hungry. Each dinner highlighted local foods and cuisines from the different areas in Norway as we cruised past - serving sizes were just right, and the food was delicious. The Expedition Team provided "Points of Interest" talks up on deck as we went by key areas, and they organized the many excursions from the ship. We took 3 different excursions - Nidaros Cathedral, North Cape, and Taste of Vesteralen - all three were excellent. The guides on the excursions were knowledgeable and provided interesting facts and stories along the way. On top of all that - we saw the Northern Lights 6 nights out of the 11 nights of the cruise. As part of the Astronomy Cruise, Dr. John Mason provided daily lectures and information, and was on deck at night to answer questions. We saw the Northern Lights 6 different nights - they were simply amazing !!!!! We took over 1500 pictures! We were very pleased with Hurtigruten's MS Trollfjord, and will definitely take another cruise with them.
Our cabin was clean and very comfortable - two beds (one folded up to become the sofa). There was more than enough storage for our clothes and stuff - including all the winter gear we brought. The window was nice and gave us a great view of the towns as we docked (we were on the port side of the ship), and of other ships that we passed.
