We traveled on the fascination out of Puerto Rico February 17-21 2019, this was our third cruise with Carnival and our first and these ports. Our stateroom was R20. We have cruised carnival previously and always had a good experience. We enjoyed the fact that this ship had a smaller population of cruisers and a large staff 2000 customers and 900 staff. Overall we only had positive staff experiences. Some of the staff went above and beyond, ALL of the Camp Carnival staff for the Sting Rays group. These girls constantly went above and beyond to help my child and others feel loved and enjoy their time in camp. There were activities planned and they were consistent with staying on schedule for these. They were always pleasant and caring at drop off and always excited to greet him. They delivered a hand written note to our room on the last night.
Our dining room and stateroom staff was always efficient and attentive to our needs. We were constantly greeted in the elevator or hallway with a “hello, how is your day” or “Is there anything I can help you with?” We dinned every evening in the dining room. Food always came out hot and fresh in a short amount of time (depending on the pace of other people at our table). We would love to see carnival do a slightly earlier seating for families with children though. We normally eat dinner 5-5:30pm so it was difficult for the kids to wait until 6pm after a long day at the beach. On average it took a little over an hour to order, receive our food and sometimes desert and leave. We were pleased with that amount of time. Kids enjoyed the coin trick person in the dining room also.
Our stateroom was clean when we arrived and was cleaned daily. Eduardo came the first day introduced himself, gave us his number to call with any issues and we never needed to because things were always cleaned. We were impressed with how neat and clean the staff attire always was and how clean the ship was kept.
Interior room with porthole, 2 twins or one king bed. Room temperature stayed around 70-72 and the vent was adjustable. There was a small variety of TV stations, the kids enjoyed Nick. Two beds were comfortable and room was clean. It was cleaned daily in the morning while we were off the ship. Kids loved the towel creations. Bathroom was small but clean and vanity area was perfect. There was plenty of storage with three closets. Our complaints on this room were the smell of sewage during our whole trip. This was primarily in the hall and bathroom. The smell was constant. In the morning starting at 5:15-6am the ship would dock and there would be an excessive amount of noise. It would jolt everyone in our cabin out of bed. The noise went on for about an hour. There was banging and clanking and very loud sound of chains hitting the side of the ship. We will never stay in a room in this area again. We did enjoy the portholes and the overall cleanliness of the cabin. Since hardly anyone stayed in our section of the ship it was quiet from guests during the evening.
Great embarking, it was speedy and staff was welcoming. Went to walgreens to get snacks prior to boarding easy walk
Took water taxi for $5 pp to town center, did not enjoy shopping in the downtown area, felt un-safe, returned to ship on the water taxi
