We went on the AmaDouro in June 2019 as part of a three week trip through Portugal. It is by far the most expensive cruise we have done....much more expensive per day than SilverSea or Seaborne. The Douro cruise was between 27% and 100% more expensive that our cruises on SilverSea and Seabourne. We are happy to pay for quality, but we expect companies to live up to their promise.

The Douro River was beautiful and the locks were amazing. This cruise is probably better for the older crowd as there is not much walking except in Porto. There are no bicycling excursions. And there is a LOT of food. Also be aware that the boat quite often docks with boats on either side; this means you have another cabin just outside your cabin! So needless to say, no view. Also be aware that the dock may be the same height as your cabin, so be sure to be dressed (or curtains pulled) when docking!

The boat was new and the cabins were standard river boat cabins. A bit of a tight squeeze to get in the desk seat. The excursions and the guides were good. The food was good, with plenty of healthy options. There were some excellent shows on board. BUT the service on the boat was seriously sub-standard, and this slowly wore us down.

Dear openmindtraveller, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We sincerely apologize that your cruise did not meet your expectations and are disappointed to learn...

Cabin Review

Upper Level Balcony Stateroom

Cabin C

The cabin was a typical riverboat cabin, where the width is decided by the side of the locks. Getting in to the desk chair was a squeeze. I'm not sure the air conditioner ever worked properly; we would adjust the temperature, but it never seemed to actually change.

Port Reviews

Porto (Leixoes)

Excellent energetic young guide took us on a whirlwind walking tour of Porto.

Vega de Terron (Salamanca)

Our guide didn't share much information, and was generally lacklustre. It was a long drive to/from Salamanca, but the drive was pretty. A better guide would have made for a better day.
