Cabin: Signature Suite with Verandah

We chose this cruise to see the Baltic Region (St. Petersburg, Copenhagen, Tallinn, Stockholm, etc.) and the Norwegian fjords - as well as to celebrate a birthday and our wedding anniversary.

This was our third Holland America cruise since December 2018 and the second on the Nieuw Statendam. Overall we've had 16 extended length cruises in the past 8 years (5 Carnival, 2 Princess, 6 Celebrity and 3 Holland America). Celebrity and Holland are our current favorites.

A few comments on our recent 21 day Norway and Baltic cruise on the Nieuw Statendam:

Cabin Review

Signature Suite with Verandah

Cabin SS

Very nice and comfortable. Close to the mid-ship elevators and a quiet floor.

We don't need the Murphy bed, but the larger closet and dual bathroom sinks are nice.

Not much sitting room however - only a firm desk chair and a chaise lounge (which is opposite the bed).

Port Reviews

Kiel

We took a cruise ship bus tour to Lubeck (center of the Hanseatic League). Much of the old town has been modernized. The Marzipan candies and cakes are good!

Copenhagen

We walked everywhere! Nice city - great to have lunch and coffee on the Stroget.

Stavanger

We walked everywhere. Not much to see.

Helsinki

Nice pedestrian walkways and coffee shops.

Stockholm

We walked all over the Gamla Stan (old town) - scenic but nothing special relative to other ports. The Royal Palace is big, but not as nice as that in Amsterdam.

Rostock (Warnemunde)

We took the ferry from Warnemunde to Rostock for the day. Very easy to do on your own.
