BOOKING

We were not particularly looking for a cruise on the Edge, but it came up as best value when I compared with others (including other Celebrity offerings) in Western Med around the same time. I guess they must have been struggling to fill this cruise since we were still getting email offers to bid for an upgrade one week before embarkation. To be honest we were quite excited to be cruising on the latest in the Celebrity fleet, despite some of the less than ecstatic reviews. Our cruising experience so far is RC Navigator, Celebrity Constellation (twice), Queen Victoria.

Cabin Review

Concierge Class Stateroom with Veranda

Cabin C3

Concierge class Infinite Balcony 12216. We did get some noise coming from above, but not sure if it originated in Oceanview cafe directly above us, or on the deck above that from people moving chairs around. Anyway, it was not a major problem for us. Note this cabin has an overhang from the deck above which does block some light. We found the cabin a well designed space with plenty of storage for our 10 day cruise. The bathroom in particular was excellent - no bashed elbows or clingy curtain in the shower. Not 100% convinced about the 'infinite balcony' part though. The main problem for us was we like to take a quick peek outside in the morning; easy enough with curtains, but a real pain with a slow, noisy electric blind. The opening window was OK, but again very slow and noisy. I am not sure how reliable they are going to be. If your stateroom has the bed nearest the window, closing the sliding/folding doors really limits space at that side of the bed. We never closed them. Room controls (lighting/ac/tv/window/blind) are good and you can do a lot using the Celebrity app, although mine would not unlock the room door from outside. If you think you might want to use binoculars, bring your own; the pair supplied were useless. We were glad of the umbrellas though!

Port Reviews

Barcelona

We used HOHO buses on day 1 to find our way around, then day 2 was a walk along Las Ramblas to Boqueria market and Bario Gothiko. For me it is mostly just another big city, but if I do go back I would take the opportunity to visit inside Sagrada Familia. The outside was amazing, so the inside....?

Villefranche

We were not allowed to tender into Monaco due to bad weather so ended up tendering into Villefranche instead. Nice little town to visit briefly, but drinks in the cafes were expensive.

Portofino

Tendered into Santa Margerita and walked around there. Nice town with some good shops and cafes/bars. We did not go to Portofino.
