Overall we had an enjoyable Danube river cruise, from Passau to Budapest, with a 3 day pre cruise stop in Prague. Danube water levels were fine and we had no issues going through the locks. Food was very good and plentiful, service was top notch. Boris, the cruise director was adequate although a little on the sarcastic side. The cabin was clean and roomy enough. On board entertainment was a decent piano player. Outside singers/musicians were brought on board a couple of nights and were enjoyable. My only complaint with the musicians is that I prefer that they stick to their traditional music. On night we heard My Way and another night it was Take me home, country Roads. REALLY!

I believe the best part of the Viking experience are the guides that they hire for the daily excursions. They were all wonderful, very knowledgeable and extremely passionate about their country. We took the Panoramic tours in Prague, Vienna and Budapest, the all day tour to Cesky-Krumlov (an enchanted medieval town) and the Heurigan evening in Vienna.

My problem comes in at the end. Our flight home to the US was cancelled. Viking Air, which we booked our flight through, was no help whatsoever. The service desk on the ship said they emailed Viking Air and we would hear from them. They never did. The goal of Viking was to get your off the ship ASAP by telling you to go to the airport. Basically, get out of here and deal with the airline at the airport. We couldn’t get out of Budapest for 2 days so going to the airport, which we did not do, would have futile. We stayed on the ship as long as possible and rebooked a flight through the airline, then got a hotel, Budapest Marriott (which was superb) in town. Viking needs to be upfront with their clients and tell them to contact the airline about your cancelled flight. Claiming they will help you is nonsense
