Carnival Vista Review

A wonderful ship whose few minuses are far outweighed by the pluses.

About Me: This is my 8th cruise on Carnival since 2002. For comparison's sake I've been on the Sensation/Elation/Conquest/Destiny and the Breeze before this cruise. I've traveled in both 1A Upper/Lower Category Rooms and on this voyage the Grand Suite. I quite like the line for it's diverse mix of passengers and lively atmosphere. In addition the Galveston Port is within fairly easy driving distance. I traveled with my son (he didn't try the Camp Carnival stuff) and his other dad.

The Ship

The Vista is a beautiful ship and despite it's passenger load still manages to provide room for everyone and including a few quiet getaway spaces. The typical areas (Casino/Pool Decks/ Lobby in the evenings) are still quite crowded but there were other areas that felt downright deserted. The decor style is very reserved with an almost spa like feel. While I miss the atrium and glass elevator set up- which is the BIG change- I still loved the Lobby area and bar and spent a lot of time there.

Grand Suite

Cabin GS

Typically I travel in an Ocean Suite but in this case a Carnival Rep contacted me a few days before leaving and I ended up impulse buying an upgrade to the Grand Suite. The primary perk here in more space and it is spacious with larger everything including Bath/Whirlpool Tub, Walk-In Closet, Balcony w/a lounge chair which used to be a part of the OS balcony as well but isn't any longer. The GS also came with access to the reserved Havana Pool area which is very nicely laid out and a lovely area. That was a nice perk but my son being only 11 could not use it as 12 in the minimum age so I rarely went back there. Overall it is a nice room and I don't regret upgrading but I'll likely not do it in the future as the space and additional perk were not enough to justify the cost in my opinion over the OS which is also very nice and spacious as well. I might have seen more value if my son had been 12 and as a consequence we had spent more time in the Havana area but even still it was a substantial additional cost that was fine this time but most likely not in the future.

Port Reviews

Galveston

Great port to cruise out of and a nice city to visit as well.
