This trip was a 17 day land and river cruise tour which included visits to Beijing, Xian, Lhasa in Tibet, a six day river cruise down the Yangtze involving numerous stops along the way,and a final stop Shanghai. The overall logistics required to accommodate the needs of each our group of 31-beginning with our differing arrivals in Beijing, hotels, tours, 4 domestic flights within China, ship embarkation/disembarkation, meals-all were very well executed without issues. Overall hotel quality was excellent-particularly noteworthy were the Hyatt Regency in Xian and the Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai.

Our tour guide David was fantastic- he kept us informed about each and every tour we took and had great command of the English language-which made everyone's experience that much better. The headline tours, such as Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City, The Great Wall, The Terra Cotta Warriors, The Portola Palace (former residence of the Dalai Lama) in Tibet, as well as the breathtaking views and commentary through the Three Gorges area of the Yangtze were everything we had hoped for-and beyond! We also very much enjoyed the rickshaw ride and home visit in Beijing, the home host visit to a family residence and our tour of the Sera Buddhist Monastery in Lhasa, Tibet, the 12 story climb of the Shibaozhai Temple and views, the grammar school visit in the Jingzhou area and the bells performance in Shanghai were all part of our learning experience.

The "xtras"-including the Peking Duck dinner, Tang Dynasty Show and the Shanghai acrobatic troupe, were worth the little extra in costs as they really gave us further insights into Chinese culture

Cabin Review

We were in Veranda 223, on the same middle deck level as the ship's lobby and restaurant and found it to be comfortable, quiet, and providing easy access to the entire ship. Cabin cleanliness and upkeep was excellent and steward were always accessible.
