I chose to cruise with family who needed a quick cruise out of Miami. So, we set sail on Carnival Victory’s 4-day excursion to The Bahamas. I stayed in room 8331.

The Cabin. The inside of the cabin was nice looking and updated. The bathroom was clean and functioned well, although my family next door and the next few cabins had sewer backup problems. There was a lot of storage. I tipped the room steward an extra $50 cash and he cleaned the room every time I stepped out! Awesome! And, I had a mattress topper put on the bed for extra old-bone comfort. Good call! That was a heavenly bed. On the negative side .... the room is right under the Rum Bar and Lido deck. There was unbelievable noise (chairs scraping the floor, music, yelling) all day and night. There was also a constant foul smell out on the balcony. It never went away and it was overwhelming! It was like a mixture of raw sewage, vomit and paint thinner. The view from the balcony is impeded by the rail on the balcony. It is right at eye level when you are sitting. Electrical outlets include two 110 outlets on the wall opposite the bed. There are two USB outlets on the wall opposite the bed.

The Food. Overall the food was bad. The hot food in the dining room was luke warm at best. Meats were very dry from sitting under warming lamps so long; portion sizes were tiny; most of the food was over-salted. But the service was great. It amazes me how the staff remember your names. The Mediterranean buffet was the same except you had other guests’ unwashed hands touching food, serving spoons and tongs. The best food was From the seafood grill on aft deck nine. I had king crab legs and they were worth the extra cost ($17/pound). The taco bar was good sans the unwashed hands-thing and the same for Guy’s burger joint. Guy’s burgers were very greasy, so make sure your stomach can tolerate that on a rocking ship.

Half Moon Cay

The sand is very hard to walk on.

Stayed at the Kimpton Epic. Fabulous and affordable accommodations but food is too expensive.
