First ever ocean cruise. Chose Viking because of an awesome French river cruise 2 years ago. The thought that went into this ship's design is amazing. The carpentry, the meeting coves and the spa additions are outstanding. Crew could not have been friendlier for the most part. Every time you passed someone it was "have a great day" or such. Room was excellent. The entire ship was kept spotless. Food in the Restaurant was very good except for day 1 - must have been opening cruise jitters. Buffet was always good with something for everybody. Our visit to The Chef's Table was a bomb out. Last seating of the night and I think the staff was shot. Basically we were ignored and the menu was more show than substance the night we went. Included beer and wine selections never disappointed.

The included day tours (we went on all but one) were mostly being shoved on a crowded bus or van thing and driven around the islands with some decent lookout spots, but a lot of really lame stops as well. I didn't think Viking would dump you off at souvenir and ice cream stores as the main portion of a tour. Went on 2 optional tours which we liked, including a beach afternoon and a great train ride. You should be aware that the average age of guests is probably around 75 and on things like the walking tour in San Juan, we started out with 30 people and ended up with 4. Between the stairs and cobblestone streets a lot of folks couldn't handle it. I know most of the islands went through hurricane devastation 2 years ago, but sadly looking past that it was mostly ghetto tours - these folks are trapped in an economic nightmare and for no fault of their own, outside of the commercial resorts these are pretty depressing housing areas. When you get several huge ships in every port the tours are roadway bottlenecks.....you never have to feel alone. If this is ocean cruising it's not for me. The river cruise experience is a whole other world. Saw some of these other ships in port and they are just floating malls. Good job on the ship Viking, but a lot of work to do on the included tours.
