We chose this trip to Antartica as it gave us the experience of landing on the continent itself.
We have been to Antartica three times before in cruise ships which were good but this time we wanted something extra.
Hurtigruten provided just what we wanted at a reasonable price and the overall package was excellent value.
Cabin Review
Having done the Norwegian costal round trip with hurtigruten we new what to expect in regards to our cabin.
It was basic but comfy with two single beds. Storage was adequate and your suitcases can be stored under your beds.
The heated floor in the bathroom is always welcome and is great for drying your washing.
Large round window,partly obscured.
TV was modern and as with the usual channels.
On a trip like this who wants to spend time in your cabin!
The meals were all very good with breakfast and lunch being a buffet with numerous choices for all tastes.
Due to the timing of the excursions we only had two fixed seating/fixed menu dinners(both of which were excellent) the others being buffets.
The excursions groups were rotated so that if you were in the first group one day you would be in much later group the next day and so on. This gave all guests the chance to experience the landings and zodiac cursing at varied times. So some got fresh tracks and different wildlife to others.
Hurtigruten is committed to preserving the antartic in pristine condition. So all outer layer clothes were vacuumed to remove the chance if seeds or foreign matter being brought ashore and the supplies boots were cleaned and disinfected before and after excursions etc.
The red HH jacket that you are supplied with and keep are a great gift and reminder of the trip.
