We wanted to try Viking as we like smaller ships and nice service. Sadly, Viking does not live up to a luxury or premium standard. Passenger to crew ratio is around 2 to 1. Staff in restaurants and bars are over-worked at times if it is busy and service becomes very slow and poor. If not busy, staff are great.
Communications on the ship are lacking. The cruise director, Chris, is a great singer but not a good cruise director. Communications on ports was late and in- complete. For example, we left Costa Rica 5 hours late. We were not notified until ready to sail. We also missed 2 ports of call. After waiting nearly 2 hours with little communications.
Captain and senior staff not present walking around or interacting with passengers. This is never a good sign. The captain seems to avoid all responsibility and contact with passengers. Today, Cozumel was cancelled and the captain never communicated once with passengers but left it to the cruise director. This is one of the worst cruises we have experienced.
