A river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam was on our bucket list for many years. We started with a pre-cruise extension to Prague, which was a great walking city. The river cruise ship was comfortable and filled with friendly travelers. The cabin was small but well-designed and there was no need to stay in the cabin except when sleeping. Being able to sit outside and watch as small towns passed by was a wonderful experience. The included tours gave us a taste of each town where we stopped. And there were plenty of additional tours available if desired. The staff, both hotel and ship side, were friendly and informative. Even the captain was approachable! The smaller number of passengers, which was what we wanted, does mean that what you may have experienced on a large cruise ship will differ greatly from what is available on-board a river cruise ship. There were several cultural-type entertainments available. But no Broadway shows, rock climbing or ice skating. Instead we met other passengers and spent time getting to know each other. The variety of food was acceptable and portion size was more than adequate. Getting on and off the ship was easy and we usually docked within walking distance of the city centers. We already have booked another Viking river cruise for this year.and a Viking ocean cruise for 2021.
Small but more than adequate. Well designed. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was modern and more than adequate.
