As we’d thoroughly enjoyed a Baltic cruise just six weeks before embarking on this cruise to N. Africa, the Canary Islands and mainland Iberia. Embarkation was smooth and reasonably quick and we were soon settled in our cabin. Luggage arrived speedily. Cabin was of a good standard with ample storage space and wardrobe. Shower room was small and could really benefit from a bit of updating. Washbasin was stained and shower curtain discoloured but nothing serious enough to complain about.

We chose second sitting and had pleasant dinner companions. Food was erratic as some dishes were excellent while sadly some were nearly inedible. Service was fine from our waiter Cyril but much less so from his assistant. We regularly had difficulty locating wine waiter. On one occasion I had to take my wineglass down to reception as there was a decidedly unpleasant substance in the glass and sommelier had left the dining room.

After a few days we noticed a cabin opposite side to us ( near the lifts so could see what was happening) was in quarantine with meals etc being delivered by staff wearing overalls and face masks. After a couple of days it became clear that norovirus was on board although no information was given to passengers at any time just brief message about hand washing etc in daily programme. On one occasion we returned to the ship after being ashore and on our way to our cabin we saw two laundry sacks full of duvets and pillows in the corridor. These were still in the same place ( uncovered) about an hour later when we were going to lunch. Surely not the best way to deal with soiled laundry from such a contagious illness.
