We chose this cruise mainly for the South Island and the fjords. We had great weather up to Dunedin where it down poured all day. We woke up early to see the amazing sail in to Akaroa which is a tender port. Definitely get up early. It was spectacular with the sunrise. This is supposed to be the most beautiful of all the ports. It was a picture perfect day with very little wind. We were enjoying our breakfast outside when it was announced the port was cancelled due to difficulty with the anchor. We were disappointed but still excited that the fjord scenic portion was still to come. Nope.that got cancelled too although no fault of Princess. Devastated to come so far at great expense (east coast of USA) to be so disappointed. No worries though because apparently this happens so often they have Patters all ready to go filled with boring activities for yet another sea day.
The ship was in great shape. Our aft facing balcony (B750) was large but has a giant beam right in the middle of it. It’s fully covered but room smaller than our other Princess premium balconies we’ve had. Our room steward was outstanding! The food in main dining room was ok but waitstaff excellent. Buffet was ok breakfast buffet very good. Salty Dog up on lido deck by pool was very good (complimentary). Only specialty dining we did Curtis Stone Share. We do not recommend. Nobody liked their meals. I got steak and it was very tough.
The crew members on the ship were wonderful. Always smiling and seemed genuinely happy. The cruise director was great and funny. Trivia was mixed Boring or fun depending on who was running it. Production shows were boring.
