It has been our dream to cruise the Galapagos for almost 30 years, and we were finally able to go! We chose Celebrity Flora over the Expedition really only because it left on a Sunday, but we are really glad we made that decision, since at the time of our sailing, the Expedition had not yet returned to the Galapagos from its repairs. We did not do the Quito extension, mostly because of the fear of altitude sickness. We flew to Guayaquil on Saturday, and after staying overnight, we flew to Baltra on Sunday. While we had to pay for our transit card ($20 each) in the Guayaquil airport, that was the last thing we paid for. We were met at the Baltra airport by a Celebrity representative and taken directly to the VIP lounge. While we were waiting, our bags were retrieved and our park pass was obtained. We waited about an hour for the charter to arrive from Quito. Once everyone arrived, we were efficiently bussed to the tenders to take us to the ship. Once we were on the ship, everything was taken care of. The ship is beautiful! It clearly was carefully designed. It never felt crowded, even when everyone was gathered together. We had a Sky Suite with Infinite Veranda, and we really enjoyed it. The room was spacious, and our suite attendant was always available. The comments about the bathroom glass divider and light are valid, but only if you need more light than the nightlight that is always on in the bathroom. The bed was really comfortable! The food was good, but not extraordinary, but we didn’t take this trip for the food. The comments about available snacks between meals are also valid, but since we don’t tend to snack, it wasn’t a big deal. There are drinks always available with a great cappuccino bar! The gym is small but functional. There isn’t a lot of time to use the gym, since there are 2 excursions a day. The excursions were phenomenal! Every evening before dinner, there was a review of the next day’s activities with a sign up for activities that included beach walks, longer challenging hikes, snorkeling and kayaking at various times. No one was denied their choices. Even when space was limited for kayaking, it seemed anyone who wanted to could kayak. There were five opportunities to snorkel, twice from the beach and three times in deep water. It is almost impossible to fully describe the amazing sights under water. The walks varied from easy on the beach to more challenging on slippery lava. The entire group of naturalists was extraordinary. They had a wide breadth of knowledge and a clear love for the Galapagos. We were never in a group of more than 12. During the day, there was a different lecture after lunch relevant to the activities. There was a different activity every evening, which we didn’t participate because we went to bed early to have enough rest for the next day. We were very sad when the week was over and it was time to go home. The trip met and exceeded all our expectations!
