After several enjoyable Cruises with Carnival we chose to go with Princess Cruises from Sydney 13nights to New Zealand, we were told Carnival was a 3 star cruise line and Princess was a 4 star cruise. When we phoned Princess we told them of our dietary requirements and were told that we would be well catered for and there would be no problems with those requirements. Nothing could have been further from the truth.

This Cruise cost us over $6,000.00 and it is the first time that I have felt totally ripped off. We boarded the ship without any problems and our luggage was waiting outside our room.

From that point forward things went down hill very quickly. The ship was neglected, rust ran down walls , furnishings were old and worn, Staff very rarely smiled and very few spoke to you, some were just down right rude. Entertainment was Art Sales, Jewellery Sales, photo sales, merchandise sales, Beer pong, Trivia and Bingo (which cost AU $39.00 for 5 games) Nightly Entertainment on the whole was good, most of the shows we enjoyed. Drinks are overpriced as a 18% fee has been added to cover gratuities. A donation appeared on our accounts when we went to the front desk to say we had not authorised it, we were informed that it was non compulsory, we asked that it be removed and not to add any further items that we had no knowledge of or had not approved. It was not the donation if we had been asked we would have happily donated more it was the principal of them adding it to our account without notifying us. The dinning room is a joke and the food was diabolical we went there once and did not return, we ate at the Bistro, this food was not good but was our only option with our dietary requirements. . They can't even give you a whole apple or banana these fruits were sliced up into bowls of water. I have eaten better food at the Food Court of our shopping Mall. This was not just us loads of people were complaining and it was a common sight to see people in formal clothes in the Bistro because they couldn't tolerate the meal they were served in the Dinning room. When leaving the ship via Tenders it could take up to 3hours to get off the ship, so frustrating sitting in the Theatre for 3hours. Advertised activities like a wine tasting that was listed on their Medallion App. they knew nothing about and the room full of people that showed up were sent away. Pool parties (with an empty pool) were the band played for 40min and didn't come back. This ship holds 3,000 people and the areas set aside as gathering places like the Piaza are a joke, they were over acrowded, queues to everything we spent a lot of time in our room reading. This cruise felt like a floating Nursing home, complete with sloppy food. Our cabin was comfortable and clean but our veranda was dirty and very rarely if at all wiped down. Shore excursions booked through the ship were good but once again very overpriced. I am not normally the person that writes negative reviews but I felt compelled to warn other people like my husband and myself, if you have saved for a nice trip think again before you travel with Princess Cruises, my husband and I will never sail with them again.
