We did an Auckland to Sydney cruise on the Jewel from Feb 4th to 14th. We choose this cruise because of the number of stops in New Zealand. We favor Celebrity, but picked this for the itinerary. We had been on NCL a couple times years ago and were never impressed. However, we were quite pleased with the Jewel and this cruise. I believe it has been refurbished fairly recently, so that probably helped. The ship though was quite nice, the crew great, and the itinerary outstanding. I cannot say a lot about the food - it was usually ok, but not great by any means. We did the specially restaurants 4 nights and thought Le Bistro was the best. We did like being able to choose from a number of included restaurants too instead of just one big main dining room. There are also no formal nights (yay!) and dress was casual (shorts were pretty common). The show entertainment ranged from OK to really pretty outstanding. The lounge and ship musical entertainment was generally pretty good. Embarkation in Auckland was a zoo due to the addition of Coronavirus screening. Fortunately, being in a mini suite, we got through in about 30 minutes. Getting off in Sydney was delayed about an hour due to Australian health officials checking out a guest. We had great weather the entire time, though we could not tender in Gisborne even though the waves looked basically non-existent. We were just going to the beach that day anyway, so the deck was about the same thing. The cruise through the Fjords was amazing with nothing by blue sky all day long. As I said, we were not NCL fans before, but this cruise definitely changed our minds.
