We thought this cruise, even though a short one going basically nowhere, would be a nice getaway for a few days. The "highlight" was a stop in Belize. THAT part of the entire experience went as expected. The rest, forgettable. Aggravating. Disappointing, and worse. …..First, the people in Woodland Hills, just the marketing part of the company, will answer your questions, but the answers they give are FAKES. Not the truth. Birthday? What do you do? Cake and champagne. NO, you do not get any champagne unless you buy it. ….. :o( The FOOD was FAR BELOW the quality and selection level of a previous Viking cruise on the Jupiter. The INCLUDED wines were obviously not as good... (there is nothing FREE on Viking, what is listed as free is actually INCLUDED in the fare you pay, for us by far the highest ever on a per day basis.) ….. The AIR they arrange is terrible, if you want something better you have to pay an extra $100 each to access the air department to try to get a better semi reasonable schedule, they should be glad to get an 80 year old something besides a red eye …. they blamed the computer, I do not buy that excuse. ….. Considering what you pay, gratuities that they set for you MUST be included, it is not. ….. One dining room ??supervisor?? stomped around day after day, with a sour look on her face you could see 50 feet away. I took about two minutes to tell a young lady, waitress, thanks for your good service at the coffee machine, because she was doing great. The drill instructor appeared out of nowhere and told her to "get back to work".... not even knowing why I was talking to her. TWENTY THOUSAND STARS for her BUT ALL NEGATIVE ONES. She should be working in a prison, not a cruise ship!!! Skipped ports, three and a half days at sea on a 7 day cruise, supposed to be only two days which was not good but understandable. Two full days to go to Belize from Miami not one, awful... And much more trouble. …. They sent us future cruise credits which was nice, then $250 on board credits for that future cruise. ….. So we booked another cruise for May 2020, they cancelled it on February 20th since it started in Asia, wise choice. BUT, despite assurances we would not only get a future cruise credit and our money back, and the $250 on board credit would transfer to another cruise, we made the future reservation because the credit issued the end of February had to be used by March 8, 2020. I asked for a month extension to give us more time to pick a cruise and coordinate, they said "no!", so I asked for three days... then one day, all refused. …. It has been long enough to transfer the $250 on board credit, they have not, and based on the past lack of follow through we are screwed, it will never be given to us. We asked two supervisors, we have their names, extensions, over more than a week ago to help us, they will not call us back... ……. If ANYTHING went right with Viking it would be a VERY, VERY EXPENSIVE but a fairly nice experience. …… Unfortunately, for us, many promises made, none of them delivered. And what is listed here, are NOT all of the abuses and problems forced upon us by Viking.
The cabin attendants were very nice, did a good job. I gave them a little extra cash in envelopes, even though Viking charged a LOT for "standard".
