Cabin: Veranda Suite

Our 5th Seabourn cruise, second on the Quest. We booked a guaranteed verandah suite and were not disappointed.

The food and drink were typically of high quality and the service very good. Only disappointment was a dinner outside on the deck when the service was very slow and we just couldn’t be bothered to wait for dessert. I think they were just overwhelmed that night.

One can get cabin fever during the 6 days in Antarctica when you are on terra firma (or ice) for only 90 min a day. I like getting off the ship and exploring, not really possible down there for obvious reasons. The Falklands were a welcome stop toward the end of the cruise and we had a long and spectacular walk from Port Stanley out to a beach (Gypsy Cove) where there are groups of Magellanic penguins. Don’t miss that.

Cabin V6

Nice cabin, good steward.

Port Reviews

Punta Arenas

Second time there. Went to a cafe and had hot chocolate with some of the locals listening to Ella Fitzgerald sing Xmas carols. Don’t miss the museum.

Ushuaia (Tierra del Fuego)

Second time in Ushuaia. Spectacular setting but the town is a disappointment. Was extremely windy that day. Good luck trying to find a lace to get local currency. Might do better to take an excursion (I generally am disappointed by ship excursions).

Stanley

The Falklands are lovely in spring. We had great weather and a long walk out to Gypsy Cove. Fabulous day. The whole island smelled of honey (I think it was the gorse).

Montevideo

The old town has a lot of charm, and we had a nice walk.
